New grocery store coming to the City of Biloxi

Another good thing to come out of the Biloxi City Council meeting is a grocery store is finally coming to Downtown Biloxi.

The city entered into an agreement on vacant property at the intersection of Caillavet and Division Street with Commerce Street Partners, LLC for $200,000.

Right now, there is Lee Grocery Store on Division Street and Food Giant on Porter Avenue.

Since Hurricane Katrina, Ward 2 has had a low population, making it hard for Councilman Felix Gines to get new development in the area.

With the recent revitalization of downtown, more residents are moving in, bringing in the developers. Mayor Gilich said, “Biloxi was a sleepy little town, but it’s 300 and something years old. The downtown in 1941 really came about by some of the opportunities by Keesler field then, now Keesler Air Force Base, but all the entertainment, every kind of venue you could imagine was on Howard Avenue. So, whether it was a restaurant, a pool hall, or a theatre. That gives us the ability to revisit those kind of events that were a part of Biloxi, then. Biloxi was the place.”

The name and company of the grocery store has not yet been released.
