Multiple rounds fired into Waveland apartment; three infants inside
Waveland, Miss. (WXXV)- It was around 9:30 on Wednesday night when multiple rounds were fired into an apartment unit in Waveland. Seven people were inside, including three infants. No injuries were reported.
Video footage taken from a nearby camera shows two suspects arrive at The Ridge apartments. They can be see knocking multiple times on the door of an apartment unit. When no one answers, they then fire multiple rounds through the apartment door.
“Me personally, I thought it was fireworks,” said K, a woman who was inside the apartment unit with her three month old child when the shots came through her door.
“We heard the knocking so I’m like that doesn’t sound right, let me get him to the back. Good thing I did get him to the back in time because if I wouldn’t have got him to the back in time I was right by the door when the situation happened. It could have easily been him getting shot or me getting shot.”
Video from inside the apartment shows bullet holes spread across the walls and the floor of the unit.
K says she believes the incident happened over a gun transaction that went wrong between a man named Kalek, who she shares her child with, and one of his co-workers. That theory has not been confirmed by the Waveland Police Department.
WXXV was able to speak with Kalek briefly. He also claimed to be inside of the apartment when the shooting took place.
During the interview Kalek was detained by Waveland Police Department with a gun in his possession. It’s unclear at this time of his detainment was related to the apartment shooting investigation.
Waveland Police are still currently looking for information on the suspect below. He was one of two individuals who shot into the apartment unit at The Ridge.
