New councilman appointed to Ward 3 in Pascagoula

A new councilman has been appointed for Ward 3 in Pascagoula.

Rick Merrill will now fill the vacant seat left by former Councilman Johnny Walker, who died last month.

With less than six months remaining on Walker’s term, Merrill was appointed the position instead of a special election being held.

Prior to his death, Walker was the only person to file for the ward 3 seat in this year’s municipal elections.

The question of a replacement on the Republican Primary ballot for the seat will have to be answered moving forward.
