New Christmas Display gets set up in Downtown Pascagoula

It’s not a typical call to the police station to help decorate the town for the holidays, but Pascagoula police had a hefty task at hand when they saw how big downtown’s new Christmas display is.
Christmas is already lighting up in downtown Pascagoula and thanks to a new business owner’s gift to the city this year’s holiday celebration may shine more brightly than ever before. Maternal Instinct Owner Hallie Waldrep said, “I thought it’d be a really good way to bring Christmas, I love Christmas, Christmas cheer to our downtown area.”
Waldrep is donating a life-size Christmas village for this year’s annual holiday celebration in downtown Pascagoula. The village was an Alabama mall’s entire Christmas display. It took three semi-trucks to deliver the village to her store downtown. “It was a little bit bigger and heavier than I thought it was going to be and I love my employees, but we all have the upper body strength of about a kindergartner,” said Waldrep.
So Waldrep called for backup and police and city officials were more than happy to give her a lift Monday morning. Lt. Doug Adams with Pascagoula PD said, “For her to want to donate and give back to the city and the citizens, I think it’s great for us.”
Main Street Director Rebecca Davis said, “It’s a rocking police department. You can call them for help with anything. They’re friendly. They go out of their way to help you.”
City officials are saying this will be their biggest Christmas event yet. “There’s carriage rides, there’s radio flyer rides. There’s vendors. There’s shopping. There’s ugly sweater contests,” said Davis.
Pascagoula’s 16th annual Downtown for the Holidays lights up at 5 on Friday.
