New Bay St. Louis police chief sworn in last week

Bay St. Louis’ new police chief has big plans for the city and his officers.

Toby Schwartz was sworn in last week as the new police chief in Bay St. Louis surrounded by family and friends.

His son, also a first responder, had the honor of pinning his badge on his dad.

Toby was interested in this particular position because he felt like he had the qualifications considering he has 30 years of experience as a police officer and federal agent.

Schwartz says after his pinning ceremony, he went straight into work mode.

He started recruiting new police officers due to a shortage and says he’s excited for the new police building that will open in 12 months. “There’s a lot of new things coming at me that are new and just specific to Bay St. Louis. So, I’m learning that here. It’s a job. It’s a fun job. It’s long days at times, but I’m excited.”

The Bay St. Louis Police Department is hiring and for more information on applying you are encouraged to call the police station.
