Negrotto’s Kicks Off Black History Month w/ Art & Sculpture

Tuesday afternoon, Negrotto’s kicked off Black History Month a little early with their 11th Annual African American Art and Heritage Celebration.

The gallery was filled with paintings, sculptures, and prints from African American artists from across the Coast. Students from the Boys and Girls Club came to learn a little more about their heritage, and about the artists that represent their community. Students and adults also listened to live music performed by spirit and soul singers.

Romy Simpson, event coordinator, says, “It’s our opening night for Black History Month. We are doing it in conjunction with the Biloxi Bay Chamber of Commerce. We have the most incredible people coming out from all over the country to be here at the event, including Fella Soul, who flew down from Chicago.”

While Tuesday night was the kickoff event, Negrotto’s will host programs to continue to celebrate Black History Month throughout February.
