NCBC and Gulfport Fire Rescue Training
A few Gulfport firefighters teamed up with some firemen from the Seabee Base for specialized fire rescue training.
Together, they’re going through training on what to do in critical situations where they or a fellow firefighter is trapped or in need of rescue. They’re practicing declaring a mayday emergency, working with thermal imaging cameras, learning advanced rope work and more.
The Rapid Intervention Team training happening all week is conducted by Alabama Fire College instructors. Fire Inspector Demetrius Baldwin said, “Rapid intervention training is very important. It’s probably one of the most important things that we’ll do because if we have a down firefighter inside of a structure then if we can’t get to them they need to know how to get out themselves. That’s why this type of training is absolutely critical.”
This type of training is not required, but useful to have in critical situations.
Training will continue through Thursday.
