NCAA Baseball: Mississippi State vs. Texas Tech

After starting the season with a record of just 6-6, Mississippi State must have realized it wasn’t giving opposing teams the total experience of playing the defending national champions.

Which brings us to last night and MSU’s nine-run bottom of the fourth inning that served as a reminder to not only Texas Tech, but also the 5,800 fans in attendance at MGM Park, that the Diamond Dawgs are back to playing like the OmaDawgs.

Or are they? 23rd ranked Bulldogs and 17th ranked Red Raiders running it back this afternoon at MGM Park. MSU going for win number six in a row over Texas Tech. State playing its 10th game in 13 days, TTU playing its 10th game in 12 days.

Red Raiders get the split, 7-2 final.

Consistency is key as MSU heads back to the Dude.  Centerfielder Brad Cumbest said, “We just need to be more consistent. I mean I’ll preach that until the end of this year. Consistency. We’ve just got to play consistent baseball. You can’t judge nothing until you play consistent baseball. The consistency of the team needs to be better. We play good and we play bad. We play good and we play bad. I just think all around we need to be better.”

Head Coach Chris Lemonis said, “We’ve got to get better. I just challenged them – we’re not a 50-50 team. But we’ve got to play better. That’s consistency of bringing it to the park every day and it’s us playing the game at a higher level, and so we’ve got to do more.”

Next up for the Bulldogs is a three-game home series against Princeton Friday through Sunday. SEC play starts March 18th.
