Naval Construction Group Change of Command Ceremony

Naval Construction Group Two Hosted a Change of Command ceremony in the training hall on board Naval Construction Battalion Center.

The Change of Command Ceremony is a product of rich heritage within the naval tradition and to keep that tradition going, Captain Peter Maculan passed the command over to Captain Jeffrey Deviney who will now oversee Naval Construction Group Two. “This is really a dream come true for me. I have been in the Navy for 25 years and command of a group of Seabees like this is really one of the pinnacle things that we shoot for.”

Captain Deviney commanded the presidential retreat Camp David and was the Indo Pacific Command Engineer before taking command of Naval Construction Group Two. “I saw first-hand the great work that Seabees were doing in support of great power competition out there. There is a lot of work to be done and I think the Seabees are the right force to do it and I am proud to be associated with them.”

With COVID cases rising, Captain Deviney says that will be one of his main concerns coming into this new position. “We need to make sure to maintain the proper force health protection and ensure that our troops and their families and the surrounding communities are safe and able to accomplish the mission. So, I think that is job one because unless you do that you won’t to be able to actually launch troops and build things.”

Captain Deviney tells News 25 he is eager to step into his position and take on the challenge. “I think really posturing it to continue to be able to be ready, to build and fight and support of great power competition is our adversary around the world.”
