Nativity BVM celebrates St. Joseph’s Day with Altar
The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral has built an altar to celebrate St. Joseph’s Day on Tuesday.
The cathedral is allowing Christians from all over the Southeast to come and witness the Italian tradition that is not carried out in their area.
St. Joseph, of Sicily, Italy, has been honored around the world for centuries, culminating in a day where many come together to celebrate the patron saint.
“It’s very much about family, friends, community, coming together, persevering in difficult times, trusting in God to see us through all things. So, it’s tied to the Christian faith very strongly.”
The cathedral will also honor Saint Joseph with a shrimp pasta lunch set to be served on Tuesday at noon.
“It’s just a symbol that the Italians started where it was a meatless lunch, to be served to the public, its free, donations are accepted, and we start that at noon.”
In addition to the lunch, anyone is welcome to come by the cathedral from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to witness or pray to St. Joseph. There will also be a Mass held in the Marian Chapel at 11 a.m.
that will be in Italian, as well as English.
