National Weather Service issues red flag ‘no burn’ warning for South Mississippi
The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for Harrison, Hancock, Jackson and Pearl River counties — advising that no burning be done.
The warning is in effect from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. for those counties. The warning was issued because of low humidity and 15 mph winds with gusts that could go higher.
“A red flag warning means no burning,” said WXXV Chief Meteorologist Rob Knight. “A combination of a dry air mass and breezy conditions means any fire could be a problem.”
Knight said the relative humidity will be in the 20% range, which is dangerously low.
Wednesday evening, Harrison County Fire Rescue responded to a reported brush fire, that engulfed a trailer off of Saucier-Lizana Road in Hancock County. The fire was believed to have been started by a burn pile that was left unattended.
