National Salvation Army Week recognized locally

The Mississippi Gulf Coast Division of the Salvation Army is reflecting on all the work they’ve done over the past year as they celebrate a week dedicated to them.

This week is recognized as National Salvation Army Week which was declared in 1954 by Congress and President Dwight Eisenhower.

Events are being held locally commemorate the week including a social service open house, online fundraiser on Thursday, and Holiness conference this weekend.

Locally, the Salvation Army says the past year has been very busy for them with COVID-19 vaccinations, food distribution, Hurricane Zeta relief, and more and they say they’re taking the time to reflect on all that has happened. Salvation Army Area Commander Major Anita Caldwell said “There’s no doubt, but the Coast are people of great heart, and they are people of great care, and they will continue to help others.”
