National Prescription Take Back Day

The Biloxi Police Department participated in a nationwide event over the weekend that allows people to safely get rid of expired prescriptions.

DEA ‘National Prescription Drug Take Back Day’ featured drop off sites across the country and here on the Coast. Biloxi police set up a site at the Walmart on CT Switzer Drive for local residents to drop those unwanted and expired medications as well as learn more about how to properly dispose of them.

Investigator William Newell with the departments says the event is all about public safety. “It’s not just speeding tickets or criminal apprehension, it’s keeping the public safe. We are public safety, so this is just another avenue in which we can do that.”

You can also drop off expired prescriptions 24/7 at the front desk of the Biloxi Police Department’s Public Safety Center.
