National Night out against Crime

It’s an opportunity for the community to meet our first responders face to face and talk about issues that affect them as well.

Tonight, the D’Iberville Police Department joins thousands of departments, nationwide, as its hosts Night out against Crime. The two hour event offered a meet and greet with police, the fire department, and set up more than ten booths from organizations partnering with them against crime.

Resident Latorya Martinez tells News 25 she’s been coming to National Night Out for the past four years to get her kids educated with law enforcement. “I think it’s important to bring your kids to these kinds of events because police are everyday people and that they can come and talk and they can interact with them and it’s not just all bad.”

D’Iberville Chief Wayne Payne said, “We can’t be everywhere. We have a great relationship with our citizens in D’Iberville. They feel very comfortable. If they see something, they say something. They know that they can pick that phone up, they know that they can call their D’Iberville Police Department and we will respond.”

This is D’Iberville’s tenth year participating in National Night Out.
