National Junior College Signing Day
Standout high school athletes from across the Gulf Coast put pen to paper today as a part of National Junior College Signing Day. One of the better soccer players heading to the next level hails from Long Beach.
Maddie Beets verbally committed to Pearl River Community College in September and this afternoon, she followed through on her word.
A dream come true for Beets who says she’s been running around on the pitch since she was four or five years old to now where she by far and away led the Lady Bearcats in goals as a junior. Twenty eight of them to be exact to go along with four assists over the course of 17 games. Long Beach Head Coach Neil Scott said, “Pearl River knows exactly what they’re getting. They’re getting a fast-paced, very aggressive forward, a well-known goal-scorer, able to take upon opponents 1V1. She knows what she’s doing when she’s got the ball at her feet and she’s nearby the goal, so she’s always going to be a threat in front of the goal.”
“It’s a lot of weekends that you don’t spend with your friends. You spend at soccer tournaments and days of the week that you do soccer and then go home, do homework, it’s just a lot of work. But it’s finally paying off,” said Beets.
Coach Scott says Beets was in the top five in goals scored amongst all players from the Gulf Coast.
