National Diabetes and Obesity Research Institute holds endowment gala

Movers and shakers from across South Mississippi gathered this evening at the Beau Rivage in support of the National Diabetes and Obesity Research Institute, based in Tradition.

Mississippi is number one in the nation in adult obesity and number two in childhood obesity. The nonprofit’s mission is to turn the page on the obesity and diabetes epidemic in our state and in our region.

NDORI, which was founded six years ago with the help of former Governor Phil Bryant, is a resource for people to use for consultations, treatment, and information.

The NDORI Endowment Gala is helping generate funds for research, patient care, and education. NDORI Executive Director Dr. Stephen Farrow said, “Here in Mississippi, being a relatively small and new institution, we’re trying to establish that foundation. We’re very good in research, good in patient care, good in education, but we need that additionally stable financial base to allow us to support broader collaborations within our state and to build the infrastructure to take Mississippi forward.”
