National commander visits American Legion in Gautier

GAUTIER, Miss. (WXXV)- The American Legion in Gautier welcomed a very special guest on Tuesday.

The American Legion is the largest veterans group in the country. National Commander Dan Wiley is spending time on the road, both across the nation and overseas.

This week, that includes a stop in South Mississippi, where he’s meeting with the local post to talk about what’s happening at the national level while also getting an inside look at the work being done here at home.

It was a night filled with good food, drinks, and conversation.

With 12,000 posts nationwide, Wiley says each visit tells an important part of the story.

Commander Wiley also discussed the American Legion’s number one message: a suicide prevention program called ‘Be the One.’
