National Commander of the American Legion stops in South Mississippi
The national commander of the American Legion made his way around Mississippi over the past few days.
News 25 caught up with National Commander Charles Schmidt as he stopped at American Legion Post 119 in Gulfport. Schmidt is taking the time to visit the members at each post saluting the vets and the work they do.
He also highlighted the work done by legion members, the American Legion Auxilary, the Sons of the Legion and Legion Riders in supporting vets and defending American Values.
Schmidt says he enjoys the camaraderie that goes hand in hand with serving or having served in the military. “Just by virtue of wearing the uniform of a military armed services of our country, it’s a bond that exists, a bond of past veterans that have passed on, those that are serving now and those that will be serving. We don’t even know their names, but it’s that bond, that camaraderie. It’s hard to beat. Of course, meeting people, particularly here in Mississippi, it is a real treat.”
