National Coffee with a Cop Day
Today is National Coffee with a Cop Day.
The D’Iberville Police Department was at Whataburger in D’Iberville enjoying coffee, food, and conversation with members of the community.
National Coffee with a Cop Day is a day dedicated to encouraging communication and positive interactions between law enforcement agencies and the public.
The day began as part of National Community Policing Week in 2016 and now continues each year on the first Wednesday in October, furthering efforts nationwide to bridge the gap between the community and law enforcement. D’Iberville Police Chief Wayne Payne said, “We can’t be everywhere and when you have a relationship like we have with our citizens, they will pick that phone up and they will call us when they have issues and that’s what’s so important.”
The simple act of having a cup of coffee with community members can be the first step in increasing trust and cooperation between the police and the people.
