NASA conducts first test in hot-fire test series
NASA conducted their first hot-fire test of a new RS-25 series on October 17.
This begins the final round of certification testing ahead of production of updated engines.
This hot=fire test marked the first in a series of 12 scheduled to stretch into 2024.
These engines will help power future Artemis missions to the moon and beyond.
The engine was fired for 9 minutes, longer than the engine must fire for an actual mission.
The test is a key step to produce engines for future rockets, starting with the Artemis V mission.
Through Artemis, NASA is returning humans to the moon to explore the surface and prepare for flights to Mars.
