N.A.A.C.P. Investigates Jackson Co. Inmate Death
Peoples was arrested by Pascagoula Police, but due to the continuing construction of the new city jail, he was sent to the county jail. N.A.A.C.P. officials said that Peoples’ wife had spoken with him that evening about being bonded out in the morning, but was advised the next day that he had taken his own life. Family says that Peoples wouldn’t hurt a fly, and wasn’t the type to start trouble.
Ruth Story, Gulfport N.A.A.C.P. President, says, “We are just anxious for the investigation to begin because we want to know the truth. That’s what we want, the truth, and whatever happens, it happens. If it turned out he did, which is very unlikely, then we will accept that, but it doesn’t seem to be credible evidence.”
