Municipal Election takes place on June 3
Polls open for municipal elections in South Mississippi at 7 a.m. on June 3 and there are still some big races on the ballot in a few South Mississippi cities.
We’ve got an eye on a few mayoral races, especially the hotly contested race for Gulfport mayor between Republican Hugh Keating and Democrat Sonya Williams Barnes. This race has seen high profile political come to the city to campaign with each candidate and a lot of voter canvassing in the past few weeks.
The big mayoral race in Jackson County is actually a rematch from four years ago. Incumbent Independent Mayor Casey Vaughan faces a challenge from former Mayor Republican Phil Torjusen.
In Biloxi, incumbent Mayor FoFo Gilich has two general election challengers. Libertarian Farren Santibanez and Independent Andy Linville.
In Moss Point, incumbent Mayor Billy Knight has a challenger in his quest to seek a second term. Richard McBride is on the ballot in that race.
We’ll have comprehensive coverage of these races and more all-day on WXXV News 25.
