Multiple people injured in gas explosion at apartment home in Gulfport

A gas explosion leaves one home damaged and causes several injuries in Gulfport.

According to the Gulfport Fire Department, several people were injured after a gas explosion near 28th Street and 26th Avenue. Two were transported to local hospitals and one person required an airlift transport for more critical care.

CenterPoint Energy crews also responded to the incident.

The Gulfport Fire Department notified the company that a third party was working on downstream natural gas lines in the property prior to an ignition.

The third party was conducting work unrelated to CenterPoint’s operations.

CenterPoint crews coordinated with first responders to secure the area and will continue to work closely with the Gulfport Fire Department, City of Gulfport, Harrison County and other agencies as the investigation of this incident continues.

The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
