MSU QB named Manning Award Star

Up in Starkville, Mississippi State quarterback Nick Fitzgerald has been named a Manning Award Star of the Week for his dominating performance versus Louisiana.

On Saturday, Fitzgerald accounted for six total touchdowns, one shy of his own SEC and school record, to go along with 250 yards of total offense.

Fitzgerald’s 243 passing yards were the most he’s had in a game since 2016 and Head Coach Joe Moorhead says that’s a byproduct of rediscovering his pre-injury pocket presence. “I don’t think he necessarily had happy feat against Kansas State but he wasn’t necessarily – the term I use is quiet feet, and his feet were a lot more quiet in this game. And it falls in line with the thought process of him knocking some of the rust off and just getting back again. You could say that the injury is not a factor, but obviously everyone has seen it, something of that nature for a guy to come back from that and feel comfortable standing in there against the rush when really you’re defenseless. I think he’s going to continue to get better and better in every week.”

Fitzgerald is one of eight QB’s recognized this week and was also one of 30 players tabbed for the pre-season watch list.
