MSU lineman to be honored with Kent Hull Trophy

Cole Smith, the center for the Mississippi State Bulldogs, has been selected by a panel of NFL Scouts as the winner of the Entergy Kent Hull Trophy for 2023. Since its inception in 2013, the Kent Hull Trophy has been awarded to the state’s top collegiate Offensive Lineman.

The partnership between the Kent Hull Foundation and Entergy allows us to highlight a player at an often unheralded position on the gridiron, while playing off the industry title of the Entergy linemen that keep the power grid operational for the company’s customers in Mississippi and beyond.

Kent Hull was a standout offensive lineman at Mississippi State. Following his college career, he went on to become an NFL All-Pro lineman and one of the greatest players in Buffalo Bills history. He played in three Super Bowls with the Bills from 1990 to 1993.

Smith has played the same position that Hull played while at State. The Pontotoc native began his career at LSU but has been a starter on the O-line since coming to Starkville as a sophomore. He earned recognition as an SEC Academic Honor Roll member. Since coming to Starkville, Smith has played in 46 games and has started 23 consecutive games. This season he has allowed just one sack.

Smith will receive the trophy during the C Spire Conerly Trophy presentation on November 28th at the Country Club of Jackson. Tickets are available online at www.msfame.com or at the Hall of Fame offices, 1152 Lakeland Drive, Jackson, MS.
