MSU/ East Central alum Brad Cumbest drafted in 9th round by Colorado Rockies

Mississippi State Bulldog Brad Cumbest, from East Central High School, was drafted this afternoon as a ninth-round selection of the Colorado Rockies, 266th overall with a slot value of more than $163,000.

This season, Cumbest finally grew into his power, swatting 15 home runs, giving him 22 long balls for his MSU career and that’ll certainly play well at Coors Field.

Originally a dual-sport signee out of Hurley, playing both baseball and football, Cumbest gave up football after the 2020 season and the results speak for themselves, having hit above .300 in both 2021 and 2022.

He tells News 25, “I’m excited for this opportunity to head out west and work hard for a great organization.”

Just like Tanner, Cumbest was a part of the 2021 national championship team. He was the 173rd ranked draft prospect.
