MSHD Warns Pregnant Women about Zika

Although there have been no cases of Zika reported in our state just yet, Mississippi Department of Health officials are advising pregnant women to avoid traveling to countries with ongoing transmission.
The Zika virus has been reported in approximately 30 countries recently but is rapidly spreading in the Caribbean as well as Central and South America. The virus can have devastating birth defects which is why the health department is issuing this warning to expecting mothers. Although the World Health Organization is working on it, there are currently no treatments or vaccines for Zika.
