MSDH warns of higher flu and COVID cases

Today, the Mississippi State Department of Health warned a higher number of COVID and flu cases are expected.

State Epidemiologist Dr. Paul Byers says Mississippi is experiencing a rise in COVID cases and hospitalization.

As family and friends come together for the holidays, MSDH advises to meet safely with up-to-date bivalent COVID boosters and to stay home if you feel symptomatic with a fever or cough.

MSDH asks Mississippians to get through this next winter surge with the least amount of COVID and flu impact.

Here’s your holiday reminder to wash your hands, social distance, and wear a mask if necessary and if eligible stay up to date with vaccines and boosters. Dr. Byers said, “For a number of weeks now the updated Bivalent booster for COVID 19 has been available. This is a very important booster vaccine to provide protection not only against infection but protection from those hospitalizations and protection from death.”

MSDH wants to continue working with community partners, providing PPE, at home COVID tests, and shots in arms.
