MS State Athletic Director John Cohen leaving for Auburn

Mississippi State Athletic Director John Cohen is leaving MSU to take the same position at Auburn.

This story was first reported by our sister station WCBI Sports Director John Sokoloff and later confirmed by Mississippi State President Mark Keenum.

Cohen has been the MSU AD since 2016 following an eight-year run as head coach of the diamond dawgs, who he also played for from 1987 to 1990.

According to Sports Illustrated, Cohen’s deal with Auburn is expected to pay him $1.5 million annually, which is a $400,000 raise.

Upon his arrival, Cohen will be in charge for hiring Auburn’s next football coach with Brian Harsin having also been fired, ahead of Saturday’s game at MSU.

Cohen’s most impactful hire during his time at MSU is Baseball Coach Chris Lemonis, who delivered MSU’s first national title in 2021.

A nationwide search for a new AD is already underway while Bracky Brett serves as interim AD.

Cohen replaces Allen Greene who stepped down in August.
