MS Sheriff’s Association Summer Conference comes to the Gulf Coast
Sheriffs from across the state are in the Gulf Coast area. The Mississippi Sheriff’s Association is having their summer conference this week at the Golden Nugget.
The sheriffs have two conferences a year and they are required by law to get at least 20 hours of continuing education per year.
At this conference, sheriffs listen to speakers, visit with vendors, and attend lectures in hopes of bringing safety information back to their citizens.
Along with educational sessions, they benefit from being around one another. Sheriff Greg Pollan from Pittsboro, Mississippi said, “One of the biggest things to me is the networking by far. When you get to come out here and hang out with your brother sheriffs, it really helps. We get to share stories. We get to share problems, try to help each other. It’s a huge networking thing. We all have the same problems; it just may be on a different level.”
Out of the 82 sheriffs in Mississippi, about 70 of them were able to attend. These numbers demonstrate a major turn out for this week’s summer conference.
