MS is 2nd Most Giving State in the Nation Right Behind Utah

Mississippi scores big in a recent study. The Magnolia State is the second most giving state in the nation, second only to Utah.

The Chronicle of Philanthropy recently released the study, which says the average household donates 7.2% of its income to charity. With holidays just around the corner, charities on the Coast have seen an increase in donations. Local charity leaders like Joe Gautier, who is the Executive Director of Loaves and Fishes, say they are not surprised.

Gautier says, “It doesn’t surprise me a bit. I’ve lived here all my life and this community is very caring and giving and loving and I’m blessed to be able to work in a neighborhood where people do care as much as they do and who give as much as they do.”

Charity leaders say they hope Mississippi continues this giving trend during the non-holiday season, as donations are needed year round. If you’d like to give back to Loaves and Fishes, their next fundraiser is January 25th at the Elk’s Lodge in Biloxi for a bingo night.
