MS Gatorade Player of the Year Mary Frances Symmes throws out first pitch at Shuckers game
Some pre-game excitement at the ball park, starting with the Mississippi State mascot, Bully, throwing out the first pitch at the Biloxi Shuckers game. He might have hit a right-handed batter!
Not to worry, Gulfport’s own Mary Frances Symmes, Mississippi Gatorade Player of the Year for girls soccer, really good with her feet, but a pretty good right arm as well, drops in a curveball. We’ll call it a swinging strike for the NC State signee. (“So, what pitch did you throw, and how do you think you did?) The first pitch – I almost – I was this close to getting to the glove, so I’d say I did pretty good. (Did you have any thoughts about kicking it instead of throwing it?) Yes, plenty, plenty, plenty of thoughts. (And obviously, just kind of soaking up stuff like this before you go off to NC State, just kind of talk about the experience and being so close to your hometown doing stuff like this.) It’s just really heartwarming to know that people care, and I just want to make people proud when I go up there.”
Symmes, a former News 25 Student Athlete of the Week and two-time 6A state champion, leaves for NC State on July 27th.
