Mrs. Mississippi to represent state at nationals

A woman who has been known by many different titles including Miss Congeniality and Miss Brazil is finally ready to head to Las Vegas and compete for the title of Mrs. American.

News 25’s Grace Boyles catches up with Mrs. Mississippi American ahead of her national competition for the title of Mrs. American 2021.

“It’s like the outside is starting to finally catch up with the beauty that was already on the inside. And I love it. I absolutely love it.”

Mrs. Mississippi American 2020 and Gulf Coast native Jamiee Dorris is completing her final tasks before flying out Thursday to contend for the title of Mrs. American 2021.

In preparation for the ten day event in Las Vegas, Dorris has spent the last six months curating 21 outfits with matching masks, an extensive jewelry collection, and a shoe wardrobe that’s hard to rival in addition to working out every day and preparing for interviews, all while in the midst of a global pandemic. “This year has been incredibly difficult because you can’t necessarily go into all the stores you want, so we’ve had to order things and they’re not right, and after sending them back it has been a lot.”

This will be the first year that Mississippi’s new state flag will be on display at the Mrs. American pageant and Dorris has made sure to find a way to highlight the new design during the state costume portion of the competition. “It just feels really good to know that we’re progressing and as the hospitality state, it just means so much to have a flag that’s beautiful that everybody can get behind. And my state costume is the magnolia because it’s being featured on the flag. So that’s kind of a double whammy. It’s great.”

Although Dorris’ husband Joel does make an appearance on stage, escorting Dorris, he gives all the credit to his wife.  “Well, I’m extremely proud of her prior to any of this, of course. But it says a lot about a person to put yourself in that vulnerable spot, you know? And to continue to do it, it says a lot, a lot of dedication.”

The next Mrs. American will be crowned the evening of March 26th and the winner will move on to the Mrs. World Competition.
