Move to Learn
Students over at Orange Grove Elementary were moving and grooving all while learning a good lesson about fitness.
The Move to Learn Initiative is in its fourth year and has seen over 100,000 kids all over the state of Mississippi. The program is designed to help teachers raise student fitness levels. In turn, this raises student achievement. Coach Calhoun got the kids up and moving while providing teachers with fun ways to incorporate fitness into the classroom. Research suggests that there’s a strong correlation between academic performance and movement.
Sixth grader Melanie Bell said, “Sometimes we get clogged up. Sometimes we get stressed out and moving around will help us get our brains cleared up and thinking better in school. I just think it will help our performance better in school, at home, wherever we are.”
Sixth grader Naima Bradley said, “Sometimes we don’t know what’s going on at home with people. So this might be a way to just let go.”
