Moss Point Youth Development finishes baseball season

Moss Point Youth Development held their final day of its baseball season over the weekend.

This was the league’s first year back in three years. For Mayor Billy Knight, having this sports program back for the Moss Point youth is all part of youth development and keeping them active in the community.

While the legacy will continue, Mayor Knight is hoping to pass a two percent recreational tax that will help leagues like this one in the future.

Funds from the tax will go towards adding resources for sports as well as re-beautifying old fields. Moss Point Youth Development Commissioner Reggie Matthews said, “Everybody pretty much on board with it because they want the fields to be better. They want to see development of our youth in Moss Point.”

Mayor Knight said, “They started from three years old up to 12, 15 years of age. You know they are the very young ones. What our volunteers tell me they want to start early with these kids. It’s just like education you know the earlier you start the more effective you’re going to be with kids as they grow and develop.”

Over 250 kids participated in this year’s baseball league.
