Moss Point State of the City Address

Moss Point is moving forward. That is just one of the highlights from the mayor’s State of the City address this evening. News 25’s Kendra Turley gives us a look at what else the mayor has on his agenda for the city.
Economic growth, plans for further development and a balanced budget: all topics of discussion during the Moss Point State of the City address this evening at the Pelican Landing Conference Center. Jackson County Supervisor Melton Harris said, “It’s a citizen’s opportunity to hear the good things, the bad things, what needs to be changed, what improvements are at hand and things of that sort.”
Moss Point Mayor Billy Broomfield touched on ways to enhance the lives of Moss Point citizens and provided updates on concerns, such as potholes and sewage problems. “We’re planning on strengthening the exit 68 and 69 corridor off of Interstate 10, which is a jewel for us,” said Mayor Broomfield.
Future plans on the city agenda include adding additional hotels to the area and continuing construction for the new public safety building. Moss Point Police Chief Art McClung said, “The construction is underway. The foundation is up. They’re actually bricking the walls. It is really wonderful to see this building going up in Moss Point.”
The crowd celebrated multiple city accomplishments throughout the address, such as perfect water quality ratings for the past three years and the transition to electronic water and gas meters. “Putting down new pipelines, gas lines, water lines and all these things that are happening in the city and we’re going to talk about the fact that we have not raised anybody’s taxes in order to accomplish those things,” said Mayor Broomfield.
Mayor Broomfield hopes that those who attended tonight’s address walked away with a better understanding of future plans and even more pride for the city. “We’re happy about the Toyota dealership that is located in the City of Moss Point, the new Taco Bell. There’s plenty of things that we’re proud of in this city.”
