Moss Point mayor speaks on police departures
MOSS POINT, Miss. (WXXV)- Moss Point Mayor Billy Knight spoke out on the resignation of former Police Chief Brandon Ashley.
Ashley resigned on September 24 with multiple officers following him in resigning.
Mayor Knight says that the city will be interviewing candidates to serve as interim chief. He says the hope is to have someone in the role by next week as a way to provide leadership in the department.
The city will also be informing the public on the process, allowing the community to chime in and let their voice be heard.
The plan is for other police chiefs on the Gulf Coast to interview the person who will become the new chief for Moss Point.
Mayor Knight says that the county and sheriff’s department is supporting of the city and is providing help where it is needed.
According to Mayor Knight, the state of Mississippi will also be stepping in to help with any issues.
He wants citizens and businesses to know that Moss Point will have a department everyone can feel comfortable with.
