Moss Point mayor releases statement on shooting in Ocean Springs
Hard on the heels of news out of Ocean Springs that the shooting at the Scratch Kitchen may be gang-related, Moss Point Mayor Billy Knight released a video statement on the matter.
The mayor’s video first sent condolences out to the Harmon family. Nineteen-year-old Chayse Harmon of Moss Point was killed in the shooting that injured six others Friday night in Ocean Springs.
Ocean Springs Police Chief Mark Dunston said the shooting was believed to be gang-related.
Knight went on to very forcefully assert there is no gang activity in Moss Point. “This alleged gang that was involved in the shooting has nothing to do with Moss Point. They are not from Moss Point, and I will not stand by and allow anyone to accuse Moss Point of being a gang city. That’s not who we are. We’re better than that.”
The man charged in connection to Friday’s mass shooting is 22-year-old Fadarius Williams. He is in Mobile right now, awaiting extradition.
He faces a first-degree murder charge and Ocean Springs police say more charges are expected.
