A Moss Point man was sentenced this week to spend nearly 30 years behind bars after his conviction on sex crime charges against a child.

District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath said 32-year-old Lavern Williams was convicted Tuesday on charges of sexual battery and touching a child for lustful purposes after entering a guilty plea. He was sentenced to 28 years in prison without possibility of parole or early release. He also must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Court records show that Moss Point Police were called out to home for a disturbance on May 14, 2021. A 14-year-old disclosed to family members that her aunt’s boyfriend touched her inappropriately and sexually assaulted her.

During the investigation, DNA evidence was discovered that corroborated the assault. Williams admitted his crimes during the guilty plea.
