Moss Point man sentenced to two life sentences in 2022 double murder

On February 26, 2024, Willie Alphonse Hurd, Jr., 45, of Moss Point, Mississippi was convicted of the murders of Markus Davison, 42, and Tremaine Moore, 38, both of Moss Point, Mississippi.

The case was before the Circuit Court of Jackson County’s Honorable Kathy King Jackson.

On the morning of March 1, 2022, Hurd shot both Davison and Moore at a residence on Elder Street in Moss Point. Hurd was later arrested by the Moss Point Police Department in connection with the shooting death of both victims.

Judge Jackson ordered Hurd to serve two Life sentences in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.

District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath stated, “Today, the Court sentenced Hurd to the maximum penalty permitted under the law and circumstances of the case. My mission is to hold violent offenders fully accountable, and today’s result is a direct reflection of that mission.”

Assistant District Attorney Bill Barrett stated, “Not only did the Defendant murder two men in cold blood, but he caused immeasurable damage to the families of victims. Hurd certainly deserves to spend his remaining years in prison for these heinous crimes. Thanks goes to the Moss Point Police Department for investigating this case and helping to bring some closure to the family of Markus and Tremaine. This case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Bill Barrett.
