Moss Point-Jackson County NAACP to hold Freedom Fund Banquet in Pascagoula

The Moss Point-Jackson County branch of the NAACP will be holding their Freedom Fund Banquet at the Hilton Garden Inn in Pascagoula on April 19th.

The NAACP is a civil rights organization that works to ensure political, social, economic, and educational equity among minority citizens in the United States. A mission that the Jackson County branch celebrates with its yearly “Freedom Banquet.”

“It’s an annual event, it allows us an opportunity to recognize some of the major contributors here in Jackson County that contribute towards the enhancement of our county.”

Tomorrow’s event will bring community members, local leaders, and organizations together to recognize major contributors here in southern Mississippi. The event will also have a particular theme.

“The theme is thriving together. We’re going to be recognizing some of the major contributors here in Jackson County that help with the uplift of the activities in Jackson County. You’ll be able to find some of the outstanding citizens and organizations that work hand in hand in making sure Jackson County is a progressive county.”

During the banquet, awards for humanitarian of the year, outstanding community service, outstanding achievement, and volunteer of the year will be given out. The banquet will also feature guest speaker District Attorney Scott Colom

“Our guest speaker, we were fortunate enough to have District Attorney Scott Colom from Columbus Mississippi. He’s a renowned district attorney, one of the few African American district attorneys in the state of Mississippi. This young man has achieved a lot in his journey in life. He’s currently the district attorney out of Columbus, Mississippi, and he was recently nominated for a federal judgeship by President Biden.”
