Moss Point hosts River City In and Out event
The City of Moss Point called for community input in an event hosted at Pelican Landing on Thursday evening.
River City In and Out encouraged residents to provide suggestions on how the city could continue to build back following last year’s damaging EF-2 tornado.
Those who attended the event shared ideas on how Moss Point could grow and improve in various aspects, including community resiliency, economic recovery, infrastructure, health and social services, housing, and natural resources.
The information that residents gave provided valuable insight to the city as well as the state of Mississippi and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Paige Roberts, chairwoman of the Moss Point Long Term Recovery Committee and CEO of the Moss Point Chamber of Commerce, explained the significance of the event.
“The reason we’re having River City In and Out is because it’s time to write the Tornado Recovery Plan along with FEMA,” Roberts said. “This is a step in that process: to gather the input, collect the data, find out what’s on the minds of the community members on how we build back better in addition to what’s already happened in the last 13 months.”
Residents were also able to connect with local non-profits and learn valuable information about staying safe in future weather emergencies.
