Moss Point High security increased after threat sent to district

Moss Point School District added extra security to its high school campus today in response to a written threat of a school shooting.

According to JaLeasa Walden, MPSD communications director, the threat was written on a bathroom stall at the high school.

The Superintendent’s office sent a letter to parents explaining the situation and advising them that out of an abundance of caution, security would be stepped up.

The school district said in a press release that district security was notified Wednesday that a written threat of a school shooting would occur on Thursday.

The district pointed out there was no evidence that the threat was real, but wanted to assure the safety of everyone on campus.

“All threats to our schools, students and staff are taken seriously and investigated thoroughly. As always, we ask that you remain vigilant to threats on or off social media and notify local authorities when appropriate.

“The safety and security of our students and staff remains our top priority in the Moss Point School District.”
