Moss Point High School damaged in tornado
Moss Point High School spent most of today pumping water out of its gymnasium.
The school took a massive hit during the tornado. MPSD Superintendent told News 25 that about 15 students and 10 faculty members were inside the gymnasium when the tornado struck. They all made it out safely.
The roof, which was relatively new to the building, has been ripped away.
The gym is not the only damage to the school. Both the football and baseball stadium have sustained damage. Some halls near the gym have minimal damage.
The school is still planning to move forward with the student’s return date after changing to a flex schedule which is slated for a month away. Superintendent Dr. Oswago Harper said, “Buildings can be replaced. Just thankful no one was injured or hurt, but we’ll go through the process. We still want to make sure that we provide the best facilities for our children. Once we get through this process of recovering from the tornado, we’ll proceed with the plans we already had in place.”
Students are expected to return to school July 20th.
