Moss Point Community Development Week
Community Development Week is spearheaded by the National Community Development Program. It brings together citizens, government officials, businesses and non-profit organizations. The Community Development Block Grant was a $98,463 grant given to Moss Point. The grant, given by the U.S. Department of Urban Development, is used to improve the physical, economic, and social conditions in a community.
Moss Point has several events planned to show how this money was used to develop the community.
Jacqulyn Davis, who is part of the community development team said, “on Wednesday we’re hosting a meet and greet for our newly-formed Community Development Advisement Committee. And on Thursday we’re going to be doing a Community Connections Resource Fair”.
The City of Moss Point is growing and headed in the right direction. That’s something the Office of Community Development wants to get across this week, but also something Mayor Billy Broomfield wanted to get across before his state of city address.
“We’re all excited here at Moss Point”, said Mayor Broomfield. “The people are excited. They have hope. They see change occurring. They understand and are not complaining that you can’t change some things unless you tear them up.”
The Community Connections Resource Fair, the main even of the week, will feature several organizations including the Social Security Administration, Gulf Coast Renaissance, and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
Moss Point’s Office of Community Development encourages Moss Point residents to use this as an opportunity to come out and discover the direction of their community.
