Moss Point Cold Case
It’s a cold case that dates back to the 90s. Skeletal remains of a woman were found in Moss Point in 1997. Decades later, a killer remains on the loose. Today, News 25’s Shelby Myers sat down with a son pleading for answers in his mother’s murder.
Kevin Murray was only seven-years-old when his mother was murdered. Twenty-one years later and the pain of losing a parent remains just as fresh. “Why would you do this to her, you know. She was still a human being and it’s like they just threw her away like she was a piece of trash.”
Carolyn Ann Rogers Major was a college graduate who went on to serve four years in the Army. At the age of 36, she was a wife and mother of two but her life would come crashing down in the spring of 1997. Major was reported missing back in April of 1997. It was in the area of the former Tony’s Lounge where she was last seen. In June of 1997, she was found dead. Major’s remains were found near a fishing pier in a secluded area. “I can remember a police officer knocking at the door telling my grandmomma what was going on. They told her that they found my momma and I can remember my grandmomma taking me to the back and tell me what was going on. I can remember hearing her at the table, you know, she was crying,” said Murray.
Major’s death was ruled a homicide. According to the coroner, she suffered a blow to the head. At the time, a suspect was generated but enough evidence to make an arrest could not be found. Twenty-one years later, a murderer roams around freely but if Moss Point Investigator Jennifer Rollins has anything to do with it, the killer’s free time is almost up. “This is one of the oldest cold cases that we have and right now, time is of the essence to get it solved,” said Rollins.
Murray tells News 25 he’s forgiven his mother’s killer and just wants to see justice served. “If anyone knows anything just please contact the police department and please share with them any information you have to get this case some closure.”
If you have any information on Major’s death, you are urged to contact the Moss Point Police Department at 228-475-1711.
