Moss Point City Hall raises new state flag
The new Mississippi State flag unifies the state and represents growth. Today, the City of Moss Point raised the new flag for the first time.
‘In God we Trust,’ now flying over Moss Point City Hall, history in the making as city leaders gathered to raise the new Mississippi state flag as a declaration for change. Moss Point Mayor Mario King said, “This is the first step moving forward. We have a long way to go, but I am proud to know that we have a unified Jackson County delegation and state legislature working hard to ensure equity and equality is met for their citizens.”
Mayor Mario King tells News 25 children are the future and we must continue to follow in the right direction. “We are the leaders. We are the people that people, children are looking at to be better. So, it’s time for us to come together. It’s time for us to show unity.”
The new Mississippi flag represents unity among communities and allows children to witness what it looks like when your vote counts. “We can’t be okay if we’re fighting, if we’re not unified, if we’re not together. One Moss Point, One United States of America and that’s what that meant to me, make sure that our children saw some unity today.”
It’s been a long time coming, the 126-year-old banner is now laid to rest at the Mississippi History Museum in Jackson. November 3rd, 2020, 72 percent of voters agreed to the new design of the Mississippi state flag. “I think as a collective unit, the citizens of Mississippi are ready to see change and ready to see how that impacts us.”
