Morning Star Baptist Church hosts holiday food drop

Recognized as a congregation of giving to people in need, Morning Star Baptist Church in Gulfport hosted a holiday food distribution.

With only 24 hours’ notice, Extend a Hand, Help a Friend, Climb CDC, and the General Missionary Baptist State Convention of Mississippi came together to collaborate and organize the food giveaway.

Well over 150 cars lined up to receive everything from lobster, shrimp, chicken, pork chops, fresh produce, grits, cereals, and pastries.

Volunteers came out to help unload, separate, and distribute hundreds of pounds of food. Morning Star Baptist Church Pastor John Whitfield said, “People are hurting right now, economically and financially, and food is one of the things that people tend to cut when they have to make a decision between an electric bill, a medical bill, they tend to cut food. So, this is a tremendous blessing especially for those in our community who may be suffering a hardship right now and it couldn’t come at a better time.”

The food was provided by Feeding the Gulf Coast.
