Morning Reporter Everett Ganier Jr. LIVE at Biloxi Small Craft Harbor for the opening of shrimp season

The official opening of shrimp season kicked off 6AM Wednesday morning.

All regulations of the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources will be in full force and effect, and all boats engaged in catching or transporting shrimp from Mississippi waters must be licensed or permitted by MDMR before beginning operations.

254 boats are licensed in Mississippi, 179 of those boats are from Mississippi.

40-50 count brown shrimp with a few larger white shrimp have been caught so far and no issues have been reported for MDMR Wednesday morning.
