More than 5,000 COVID cases reported in Mississippi

The Mississippi State Department of Health on Friday is reporting 5,023 more cases of COVID-19 in the state, 31 deaths, and 166 ongoing outbreaks in long-term care facilities.

State COVID-19 totals: 381,147 cases, 7,761 deaths, and 1,065,743 persons fully vaccinated.

Of the 31 deaths reported, one was in Hancock County and another in George County.

Mississippi has about 35% of the population fully vaccinated.

  • Memorial Hospital at Gulfport is holding a vaccination event at Keesler Federal Credit Union on Seaway Road from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
  • Singing River Health System has vaccine events happening today from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at their hospitals on Denny Avenue in Pascagoula and Community Road in Gulfport.
  • Harrison County Board of Supervisors will have a COVID testing site from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekends at the Kenny Fournier Multi-Purpose Building at 10395 Auto Mall Parkway in D’Iberville. Memorial Hospital is operating the site.
